There are 16 basic EQ ( emotional quotient ) competencies organized across 4 key areas: Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management…
1- Self Awareness
I recognize my emotions and their effect on my job performance.
I am aware of the impact of my emotions on others’ feelings and behavior.
I know my strengths and limitations.
I have a strong sense of self-worth.
2- Self Management
I am able to keep disruptive emotions and impulses under control.
I act with honesty and integrity in my dealings with others.
I am optimistic and expect that changes in the future will be for the better.
I am flexible and adaptable in handling change.
3- Social Awareness
I sense others’ feelings and perspectives.
I take an active interest in others’ concerns.
I am adept at understanding the meaning of office politics.
I understand the guiding values and unspoken rules of my organization.
3- Relationship Management
I am able to communicate clearly and convincingly.
I am skilled at disarming conflicts.
I build strong personal bonds.
I inspire and guide others with a shared mission.
There are 3 exercises you can do here which may be useful
a) score yourself – 1 is low and 5 is high for each competency. Maximum score is 80 but most mortals will not be able to reach this level.
b) identify for yourself which are the competencies that you need to focus on for maximum change
c) try to find competencies that are more important in a particular category than others. You may find this hard because all are equally important.
