It is an unfortunate reality that every organization has a number of these characters. It is also true that most managers don’t like handling a difficult employee; they will much rather ignore the issue or skirt around it because this is much easier to do. But remember, if you are a manager or a supervisor and you don’t know how to handle a difficult employee, then you become the difficult employee yourself

MDi Pakistan hosted a FREE webinar for students, youth and aspiring entrepreneurs on Tuesday 29 December 2020, 2.30 – 4.30 pm.
This was a conversation about entrepreneurship with Salman Farooq, a high-energy, result-oriented and successful entrepreneur with both domestic and international experience in technology, education, energy and other industries. Salman has been involved with successful business ventures in the US, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The webinar is in the form of a conversation with Salman Farooq who responded to questions from a panel of moderators that included Asad Zaidi, CEO of MDi Pakistan and Uzera Nishat, CEO of the Institute of Empowerment. We used both English and Urdu to ensure maximum participation. The webinar focused on what entrepreneurship is, what it isn’t, what works in the Pakistan context, and what types of businesses can be particularly feasible for those looking to start out with a small venture. There was also an opportunity for a Q&A for participants at the end of the session.

Goal Setting – From SMART to FAST
It was in the early 1950’s when the concept of “management by objectives” was introduced by Peter Drucker. The idea was that the boss would agree a set of goals for the year with each subordinate and then review the performance against these goals. Managers also learned about the acronym SMART for goal setting meaning goals had to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. This methodology of goal setting has become so established that few managers have actually questioned if this approach works.
